Time to think about the Yard Sale!

I don’t have a date yet but I fully expect to have our yearly yard sale towards the end of May this year. Please think of us when you do your spring cleaning, etc. and perhaps put aside some of your unwanted doohickeys, thingamajigs, and bric-a-brac for it. I think we run the biggest and best yearly yard sale in Sharon and we raise a good bit of money for the church in the process.

There are some things we won’t take like clothing, computers and computer parts, televisions, and furniture that isn’t ready to immediately use (that is, no rips or broken or missing parts). Because of the huge number of recalls, we can’t take cribs either since we can’t be certain of their need for modification in order to be safe.

We can take a shopping bag of books per household. Also if something is more valuable that what we can probably get for it through the yard sale, let us know and perhaps we can sell it on Craig’s List or eBay. There were a few large items that we took with the understanding that the donators would take them back if they didn’t sell. See me if you have one of those. There is an organization that takes bicycles and sends them to countries that need them that will be at the church earlier in May and you may want to give them your bikes.

Should be a good time for all!

The AIM project continues to give us little surprises. We had to change the service that does our snow plowing because there’s basically no where into which we can plow the snow if there’s a lot of it. We used the former person for many years and were very happy with his work but he only has a plow. I would be happy to give you his name if you are looking for a new snow plow service. The new service uses a small front end loader to dump the snow in one of the only areas that we can use for that purpose.

On another front, see Peter Wilson if you have a small stereo cabinet you want to get rid of. He may be able to use it for the church’s PA system.

Thanks to all the volunteers who, as this newsletter is being published, are cleaning up the sanctuary. There will be a number of requests for volunteers in the near future as we move back into the church and new wing. I appreciate the help in this extra project because I know everyone’s time is precious.

Keep warm.

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season. The days will be lengthening by the time you read this so things can only go uphill from here for a while.

I had a great experience on Saturday the 19th along with Melissa Mills, both Gare Reids, Doug Wilbur and his son Andrew, Phil Conover, and Jack Armstrong. We moved this monstrous display case Gare got for the church onto the second floor from the old whaling museum. Conservatively I think it weighed a ton, at least it felt it. Moving it brought back memories of the times I moved furniture into the apartments once lived in and the house we now inhabit. None of those places ever felt like ours until we moved some furniture in. It was very moving to look at the display case, now in the new library, and thinking, “After all we’ve been through… the place finally feels like ours.”

I also wanted to thank all those people who helped clean up for the Blue Jean Sunday a few weeks ago. We got a lot done. On a less cheery note I wanted to note that we spent over an hour raking with maybe a dozen people helping. With more members helping, it would have gone much faster. I realize some of the problem was that I was not there to remind everyone about it the week before but it was publicized before that. Please chip in and help on those occasions in the future. As they say, “Many hands make light work”. There will be other requests for volunteers in the near future as we move everything back into the church. Please think of helping then.

Lastly, if you are hosting an event coming up and need something that is not currently in the church (perhaps a lot of folding chairs, for example), please let B&G know a week in advance so that we can help you get it, either by getting it ourselves or helping you do it.
