Partner Church Travel Opportunities
You can enjoy the beauty and history of Transylvania, visit
our partner church, and learn more about the eastern European roots of
our liberal religion, with the help of the UU Partner Church Council
Travel Service. The coming year's offerings include:
• Pentecost Spring Renewal Trip. (May 21 - June 2)
Led by Leon Hopper. Departing from and returning to Budapest,
this tour traverses eastern and central Transylvania and visits many
of the significant Unitarian
sites including Kolozsvar, Torda, and Mezsko. You will have the opportuity
to spend the 3-day weekend with our partner congregation.
• Village Life Cycling Experience. (July 8 - 20)
Easy to moderate day-trip
bicycling with Zsolt Solymosi (who was a guest at our church) on the
scenic back roads of Harghita County, the heart of the Unitarian community.
Cycling days will alternate with van side trips to the medieval fortress
city of Segesvar/Sigisoara, the Praid salt mines, and the UNESCO world
heritage sites at Szekelyderz and Biertan. Departing from Bucharest,
this tour includes a weekend stay with a Unitarian congregation and a
variety of accommodations for every budget.
• Fifth Annual Youth Pilgrimage (July 28 - August 11)
For ages 15-19. Travel
with other UU youth from around the country and experienced chaperones.
Learn about Unitarian history in Transylvania and get to know the people
in a partner village during a 3-day visit. Along the way you'll learn
about the roots of our Unitarian faith, hike in some beautiful country,
meet Transylvanian Unitarian young people, and have a great time!
• Transylvanian Thanksgiving (September 21-October 1)
Discover the
autumn beauty of the Carpathian Alps and the fascinating history of the
walled churches of Southeastern Transylvania. Departing from Bucharest
after a morning tour of the city, this tour visits Peles castle,
home of the Romanian King, and the unique fortress churches of the Haromszek
region. It includes two nights
at mountain resorts and a 3-day visit to a Unitarian village where you will celebrate
a traditional Transylvanian Thanksgiving.
It's also possible to "tag along" on trips arranged by other
UU congregations who have extra space.
For more information, visit the Partner
Church website,
or e-mail travel coordinator John
Dale. The
McGregor family, who have all traveled in Transylvania, can guarantee
