Introduction to Beloved Community: Welcome as a Spiritual Practice (Screening and Discussion)
October 11 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Continuing the conversation on what it means for the Unitarian Church of Sharon to affirm and proclaim that Black Lives Matter, we are revisiting Session 1 of the video lecture series Transgender Inclusion in Congregations.“
“Wait—transgender inclusion? I thought this was about antiracism?”
Yes and yes. Whether you’ve engaged with this material before or are coming to it for the first time, please join us for this exploration of who we are and who we aspire to be as a congregation that actively builds the Beloved Community.
In this session we will: 1) Get grounded in a “Beloved Community” approach to welcome, 2) Reflect on our personal experiences of welcome versus unwelcome and inclusion versus exclusion, 3) Envision what practicing Beloved Community in a congregational setting looks like.
The video will be screened from 1:00-2:00, followed by small breakout groups for reflection and facilitated discussion from 2:00-3:00.
If you are unable to join us for the screening — or simply prefer to view the lecture on your own time — please feel free to join us at 2:00 for discussion only. (Please be prompt!)
