Our fifth and sixth graders begin Sunday mornings in the sanctuary with their families to share in the opening words, chalice lighting, joys and concerns, a hymn, and the exploration of the morning’s story. At 10:25 am, youth and teachers head to their classrooms. Class meets from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Participants are released to the vestry for coffee hour once worship has concluded.
Special Programming for Fifth and/or Sixth Grade Youth:
Revels – our winter holiday celebration. During Revels, children and youth reflect on the meaning of the dark time of the year. They spend several weeks exploring traditions and spiritual practices of many cultures and religions throughout the world, and then share these experiences by leading worship for the whole community on the second or third Sunday in December. Revels 2019 will be held on December 15th.
Our Whole Lives (OWL) – is a comprehensive lifespan sexuality education program developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association. OWL for grades 5-6 is intended to extend the lifelong conversation between parent and youth about values, decision-making, sexuality, and ethics. Weekly reading assignments and activities are intended to be shared by youth and parent. OWL 5-6 allows a deeper examination of what it means to grow up and take responsibility for our bodies. This 10 session program will next be offered late on Sunday afternoons from November 2020 through March 2021. More information about OWL
Children’s Choir – The Children’s Choir is for any child who wants to play and sing and occasionally perform during the Sunday service. We meet on Tuesday evenings 5:30-6:30 in the fellowship hall downstairs. Forbesy Russell leads with her guitar. There is cheese pizza to begin, warmup and singing and a little candy treat at the end. We sing upstairs for services about once a month. All children are welcome! Give Forbesy a call or text at 781.201.9533. We follow the school vacation schedule.
Religious Education Sunday – a worship service led by children and youth. In the weeks before RE Sunday, children and youth reflect on what they’ve learned and as a group develop an experience to share with the congregation a few gems of wisdom from this year’s religious journey. Prepare for some insightful surprises. RE Sunday 2020 will be held on April 5th.
Junior Youth Fellowship Group (Grades 6-8) – meets once a month for a variety of activities that include off-site adventures, conversations, games, art projects, questions, caring, and lots of laughter. This group is for grades 6 and up and runs from September though June. Coordinated by Katie Byron.
Coming of Age Worship Service – Our 5th and 6th graders join the congregation for this special worship service during which our 8th and 9th graders share statements of faith developed during a year of religious journey and reflection. Next held in May 2020.
