|Two core learning experiences are offered to youth in a two-year cycle. |
Year 1: Our Whole Lives (Grades 7-8)
Year 2: Coming of Age (Grades 8-9)
The Unitarian Church of Sharon recognizes the needs of early adolescents to address central questions about who they are and what matters to them. The church offers two fairly intensive, year-long programs, in sequence to address the needs of this age group.
Our Whole Lives (OWL) for 7th and 8th graders offers youth a covenantal space in which to ask important questions and consider significant ethical dilemmas regarding sexuality. The topic is challenging and stressful, and the group comes out stronger than when they started.
The second program in the sequence, Coming of Age for 8th and 9th graders, offers this established group of youth the opportunity to reflect more deeply — on what they trust, what they have faith in, what really matters to them.
The church offers EITHER OWL 7-8 OR Coming of Age in a given year; the programs alternate. Some youth start this cycle as 7th graders and others as 8th graders.
