Supporting our Immigrant Neighbors
In this time, there are a few small things we as a UU fellowship can do to bring a message of love and caring to our neighbors. That includes supporting our immigrant neighbors with basic household items as they relocate into permanent housing. A wide range of items can be donated and we will see that they are transferred to the team matching housing with families
These are some Actions YOU can take to help out!
- Contribute items listed below on “ITEMS NEEDED” section. Items should be either New or Gently Used and can be brought to the Vestry:
- Be available to organize the contributions before, during or after Coffee.
- Collect items at homes from those who cannot bring them to the Meetinghouse.
- Direct folks to the collection table and encourage others to donate. Make donation badges! Make signs for the collection table! Etc.
We are accepting donations March 2 but are suspending donation collections for a few weeks due to Vestry rentals.
We will resume March 23 and 30 and end April 6.
Let anyone on the Social Justice Committee know how you can help. (Ellen S-B, Gare R., Janet S., Lisa U., Barbara N-R, Beth M., Courtney H.)

Update from Ellen
Hi Everyone
Thank you for your donations! We have made a difference! Your donations are not just helpful. They’re essential!
Reminder: Donation table will be closed for the next two Sundays, March 8 & 15.
Donation table reopens March 23, 30 & April 6.
I asked Hana- (our link to distribution of Donations of household items to immigrant families when they have secured housing) – if there were items —new or from the original list—in much need right now. Yes! So here is an updated list—
ITEMS IN MUCH NEED NOW
small, basic kitchen appliances- toaster oven microwave, electric kettle, coffee pot, slow cooker, hand mixer
Pots and pans- med to large
Plastic spatulas for teflon pans, mixing spoons, measuring cups and spoons
Large bowls for preparing food
Blankets and pillows
Carpets (Vestry can take rugs under 5×7, but larger rugs can be picked up)
Irons and ironing boards
Night/side tables
Checks made out to the Unitarian Church of Sharon, memo line “housing”, can be made at the SJ table in the vestry and proceeds will be used to purchase necessary items like crib mattresses.
Thanks everyone — we can’t do everything, but it’s good to know that the little we can do will help.
THANKS FOR HELPING!!
