Becoming a Religious Education Volunteer

How do you become a teacher?

Members and friends of the congregation are encouraged to consider volunteering in the Religious Education program.  Teaching offers the opportunity to get to know both your colleagues and the younger members of the congregation. It also offers you the opportunity to “drink as you pour,” to reflect more deeply upon the questions that you are teaching about.

If you would like to explore the possibility of teaching, please speak with the Interim Director of Religious Education, Christine Bulman.  Christine can explore your interest and match you with an assignment that is “just right” for you.

Requirements:

  • Completed 8th grade
  • At least 14 years old
  • A participant in congregational life for at least 6 months
  • Clear criminal background check.

The commitment is for 7 to 12 Sundays over the course of the church year (September through May). Volunteers pick their own schedules (in cooperation with team members). Orientation, detailed lesson plans, and ongoing support are provided by the DRE.
